Obituary: Eunice Olive Hansen Martel

Eunice Olive Hansen Martel, 97, of Beaver Dam entered eternal life on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Landmark Advanced Memory Care in Beaver Dam surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be on Friday, May 23, 2014at Noon at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Mark Jensen officiating.  A visitation will also be held on Friday, May 23rd from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Noon at the church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Eunice was born on July 14, 1916 to Neil B. and Mildred E. (Brown) Hansen in Antigo, WI, she moved to Beaver Dam in 1917.  Eunice graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1934.  She furthered her education in Oshkosh, WI taking business courses.  She worked in Beaver Dam at the Wisconsin Railroad and in Milwaukee.  In her later years, she worked in administration for the Green Giant Company both in Fox Lake and in Beaver Dam.

She married Harold A. Martel in 1937.  This marriage was blessed with two sons Jerome and Neil.

Eunice was a faithful member of First Ev. Lutheran Church serving as an Elder and Deacon.  She did a lot of church work including bible studies and mentoring.  Eunice enjoyed her grandchildren and her travels which included annual trips to Door County, Hawaii, Alaska and Arizona.  She also belonged to the Trail Blazers of Fox Lake.

Eunice is survived by her son Jerome (Rosemary) Martel; her grandchildren: Randy (Jen) Martel and their family Ryan, Kelsey and Kayla; Dale (Tammy) Martel; and Mark (Kim) Martel and their family Andrea, Ashley and Emily; her sister Carol Reider of Germantown and her brother Mark Hansen of Beaver Dam; nieces Kathy Scharschmidt, nephew Paul Bahrs and her extended family Ron and Pat Lueptow of Randolph.  She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, her son Neil, sister Deborah Bahrs, niece Mary Reider, brother-in-law Daniel Reider and special friends Hank and Helen Kelln.

Eunice’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Charleston House and to Landmark Advanced Memory Care staff for their kindness and compassion in caring for their loving Mother, Grandmother and Sister.  They also wish to thank the staff of Generation Hospice Care for their dedicated care and support for their family.
