Obituary: Lester A. Wackett

Lester A. Wackett, age 87 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Lester was born in the town of Westford on May 10, 1927 to Fred T. and Edna L. (Louden) Wackett. He was united in marriage to Agnes Schmid on July 29, 1947 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Lester spent his entire working career dedicated to serving others, beginning in the United States Army before entering a 32 year career in law enforcement, starting with the City of Beaver Dam and retiring with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department where he served as a detective. 

Lester’s family and his faith were most important to him. He was an active member of the former St. Michael’s Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council and assisting with Masses. He was currently a member of Annunciation Catholic Parish in Fox Lake. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, dancing to polka music and spending time in his workshop working on various woodworking projects. Lester had a true passion for living and he enjoyed life to the fullest.

Lester is survived by his wife, Agnes of Beaver Dam; his children, Linda Lou Wackett, Pamela (Thomas) Flock both of Beaver Dam, Lester F. (Judith) Wackett of Juneau and Daniel J. (Kathy) Wackett of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren, Lesley (Jim) Leusink, Kimberly (Lester) Bruch, Martha Flock, Brian Wackett and Brad (Tammy) Wackett; his step-grandson, Nicholas (Sheyenne) Berndt; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Clifford (Leona), Byron (Elda), Floyd (Ester), Budd (Marie) and Nellie (Cecil) Gray; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Wackett and other relatives.

A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Lester will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam with Fr. Mike Wild officiating.  Visitation will also be held on Thursday, prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam and a luncheon will follow back at Cornerstone. 

Memorials in Lester’s name may be directed to Dodge County Humane Society or the charity of one’s choice.
