Obituary: James “Jim” W. Fox

James “Jim” W. Fox, age 82 of Markesan, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his home.

Jim was born on December 4, 1931 in the Town of Green Lake to Wilbur and Ruth (Sommers) Fox. He graduated from Markesan High School and the University of Wisconsin Agricultural Short Course. He was united in marriage to Gloria Reeck on October 22, 1955 at Markesan United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed farming, as well as his time working at the Del Monte scale house and driving truck for ABN, currently Plainfield Trucking. He served as the Town of Green Lake Chairman, as well as on the Grand River Fire District and Ambulance Committee and the Grand River Co-op Board of Directors. Jim was a member of Markesan United Methodist Church, where he served many years as the President of the Church Council. Jim’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished all of the time he spent time with them. In his free time, Jim enjoyed shelling hickory nuts and giving them away. 

Jim is survived by his daughter, Babette (Todd) Becker of Markesan; grandchildren, James (Angie) Reetz of Oshkosh and Samantha Becker of Markesan; siblings, Wayne (Marilyn) Fox of Markesan, Ralph (Patricia) Fox of Indianapolis, William (Beverly) Fox of Markesan, Wilbur “JR” (Valerie) Fox of St. Louis, MO and Mary (Art) Ehlert of Waupun; sister-in-law, Pearl Reeck of Beaver Dam, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria, on May 12, 2014; his sister, Jane Zanto; 3 brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law and other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Jim will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Markesan United Methodist Church with Rev. Ethan Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Phelps Cemetery in the Town of Green Lake.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan and also on Saturday prior to the service at church, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
