Obituary: Gloria E. Rake

Gloria E. Rake, 84, of N5043 Hwy 151, Columbus passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Columbus Community Hospital surrounded by her family. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Ron Rank officiating.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30th from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.

Gloria was born the daughter of Orrin and Della (Warber) Stofflet Sr. on September 22, 1929 in Springvale, WI.  She was married to Robert E. Winter in Columbus.  Later, she was married to Melvin C. Rake in Columbus.  Gloria was employed with Monarch Range in Beaver Dam and later with John Deere in Horicon where she retired. 

Gloria was a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Columbus.  She enjoyed gardening and had a love of animals.  Gloria enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Apple Tree Family Restaurant in Columbus.  She will be remembered for her witty sense of humor.  She especially enjoyed family gatherings and thought the world of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Gloria is survived by her eight children: Donna (Rosie) Winter of Ogden, UT, Ronald Winter of Columbus, Deb (Walter) Wendlandt of Randolph, Denise Winter of Beaver Dam, Dennis (Colleen) Winter of Columbus, Donald (Deanne) Winter of Columbus, Daniel (Bobbie) Rake of Columbus and Dale (Shelly) Rake of Columbus; two sisters: Teena Schmidt and Joan Fehr; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren with two more one the way; her special friend, Lynn Kreyer of Poynette; a special niece, Cheryl Henderson of Rio; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin in 1997 and seven siblings. 

Memorials may be directed to the Columbus Community Hospital or to the Dodge County Humane Society.

Gloria’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the 4th floor nurses, housekeeping and kitchen staff of the Columbus Community Hospital as well as Dr. Sam Poser for all their wonderful care and support.
