Obituary: Rosamond D. “Ro” Mills

Rosamond D. “Ro” Mills, 90, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, September 14, 2014, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

Born December 7, 1923, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Mathias Hardwig and Mathilda A. Wiener. After graduating from St. Benedict College in St. Joseph, Minnesota, shetaught science at junior/senior high schools in Perham, Minnesota, and Montevideo,Minnesota. She met her future husband, Lowell D. “Tip” Mills, in Montevideo where they were married in 1949.

Ro and Tip raised their family primarily in Hutchinson, Minnesota, where Tip was the editor and co-publisher of the Hutchinson Leader from 1958 to 1981. Ro was an active parishioner of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson. She enjoyed golfing, bridge, gardening, needlepoint, sailing, and spending time with her family at their cabin on Lake Jennie north of Hutchinson. In later years, Tip and Ro lived together in Naples, Florida, and Peoria,Arizona. Ro moved back to the midwest in 2007 and had lived in Beaver Dam since 2010.

She is survived by her three sons, Greg Mills of Alaska, Charles (Leanne) Mills and Peter Mills of Minnesota; daughter Sara Mills (Steve Bauer) of Beaver Dam; grandchildren Carl (Shannon), Joshua (Elizabeth), and Matthew Mills; six great-grandchildren, Summer, Brecken, Ellie, Éowyn, Noah, and Caleb, all of Minnesota; and step-granddaughter Rachael Bauer of Louisiana. Also surviving are brother Paul (Donna) Hardwig of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and sisters Auxilda (Sal) Hunt of Schofield, Wisconsin, Eileen Stibal of Owatonna, Minnesota, and Virge (Dick) Grunwald of Garner, Iowa.

She was preceded in death in death by her husband Tip, her brother Jerome, and her sister Florence.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 20, at 11 am, at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road Beaver Dam, Wisconsin with Rev. Mike Erwin officiating.  A visitation will also take place on Saturday from 10am to the time of the service at 11am. Interment will follow at a later date in St. Anastasia Cemetery, Hutchinson, Minn.
