Obituary: Marlen E. Zirbel

Marlen E. Zirbel, age 92, of Horicon, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

Visitation for Marlen will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, 716 Clinton Street in Horicon, on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 11:30 AM to 12:50 PM.  Funeral services will follow on Friday at the funeral home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Daniel Seehafer officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon.

Marlen Edwin Zirbel was born on May 23, 1922 in the Town of Williamstown, Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late Reinhard and Emma (Zuelke) Zirbel.  He worked at Hoefs Gravel Pit as a Heavy Equipment Operator and then, for 34 years, at Gehl Company in West Bend.  Marlen was a member of the Hexelbank Club, a group of retirees from Gehl.  Marlen enjoyed gardening and he absolutely adored his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Zirbel of Horicon; twin sons, Jon (Wendy) Zirbel of Juneau and Jan Zirbel of Horicon; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Natalia, Cory, and Chase; his sister, Vera Schmidt of Hustisford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Marlen was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ronald, Donald, Ervin, Norman, and Vilas; and his sister, Arlene Bensley.
