Obituary: Roger L. Ward

Roger L. Ward, age 77, of Beaver Dam, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at his daughter’s home in North Freedom.

Visitation for Roger will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 North Crystal Lake Road in Beaver Dam on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  On Friday, October 10, 2014, there will also be a visitation at the United Methodist Church in Marshall from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM, funeral services will follow at church on Friday at 11:00 AM.  Burial with military honors will be at Medina Cemetery in Marshall.

Roger LeRoy Ward was born on June 14, 1937 in Crawford County, Wisconsin to the late Sheldon and Victorine (Coy) Ward.  On November 7, 1956, Roger was united in marriage with Carole A. Kosinski in Sun Prairie.  He graduated from Marshall High School in 1956 and served his country in the United States Marine Corp Reserves.    Roger was involved in farming throughout his life; he farmed with his Uncle Vilas for many years, he worked for several silo companies for over 16 years, and he worked for Nehls Brothers Farms for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Indiana. In recent years, Roger enjoyed driving for the Amish, taking many long trips across the country.  He loved fishing and hunting and was a great storyteller.  He was exceptionally proud of his entire family and of who he was.  

Survivors include nine children, Anna (Joseph) Ertl, Linda (Bob) Cooper, Tina Ward, Teresa (John) Pulver, Angela Smith (Pat Matushak), Gerald Ward (Debbie Busch), Marjorie (Scott) Lane, Gregory Ward (Tami Joyce), and Vilas; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Shirley) Ward, William (Tressa) Ward, and Sheldon Ward; six sisters, Donna (Robert) Craig, Joanne (Fredrick) Hawkins, Bonnie (Fredrick) Anderson, Evelyn Ward (Richard Baumeister), Peggy (Frank) Long, and Marilyn (Darryl) James; many other relatives and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carole in 2005; a son-in-law, Brian Allen; a granddaughter, Susan (Adam) Bukowski; a grandson, Christopher Allen; and two sisters, Inez (Stanley) Adsit and Delores (Robert) Laybourn.
