Obituary: Roy G. Gentz

Roy G. Gentz, 88, of Beaver Dam, surrounded by his loving family, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Hillside Manor.

Funeral service for Roy will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin with Rev. Seth Dorn officiating. A visitation will also take place on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Zum Kripplein Christi, township of Herman, Wisconsin.

Roy Gerhard was born the son of Anton B. and Regina A. (Roll) Gentz on December 6, 1926 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.  Roy was a graduate of Horicon High School. On May 17, 1950, he was married to Joyce R. Wrzesinske at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge.

Roy had been employed as a dairy farmer and as a mechanic at Spangler’s and MetalFab.   He also owned and operated Gentz’s Apple Picnic Nut Farm.

Roy loved woodworking and built hundreds of clocks and beautiful furniture for his family. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, and he started a model airplane club. He also belonged to several card clubs.

Roy was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam, where he also devoted his time as an elder, and belonged to the St. Stephen’s Friendship League and the OWLS. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa.

Roy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce of Beaver Dam and their children: Mark (Marilyn) Gentz of Anaheim, CA, Debra (Fred) MacDonald of Sun Prairie, Anton “Tony” (Karla) Gentz of Brownsville, and Brenda (Gary) Gubbels of Beaver Dam; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Dawn Standke, infant daughter Angela, his sister Antonette Lentz, and his brother Bernhard Gentz.

Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam or to Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills.
