Edith Emma Barton, age 93 of Beaver Dam, passed away with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Edith was born on January 10, 1921 in the village of Oxford, WI. She was the only child of Lewis and Lula (Mills) Jungenberg. She was raised on the family farm in the village of Packwaukee. There she attended grade school and went on to graduate from Westfield High School in 1939. On November 20, 1941 she married Russell Barton. They continued to live in the Packwaukee area until Russell entered the Army in 1942. Edith moved with Russell to Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Chaffe, and Fort Smith, Arkansas before he was sent overseas to fight in Europe during World War II. Through all the years, they remained active in the 14th Armored Division Association. Edith was very happy to be able to attend their reunion in Milwaukee this past October. She held office, starting as 3rd Vice President, advancing to National President, and most currently Historian. Edith was also a member of Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam.

Russell and Edith enjoyed many years of travel in their retirement, going to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. They were proud of the fact that they had visited all 50 states. Later on they became “snow birds” and spent many winters with friends and relatives in Fulton, Texas. Edith had a green thumb. She loved gardening and growing vegetables, which she canned and froze for the winter. However, most of all, she loved flowers. She grew them in the yard and in the house. She said she was never happier then when she was on her knees weeding.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Clela (Gene) Rueter; four grandchildren, Christine (Brad) Flagge, Clark Barton, Katherine (Wes) Stultz and Cari (Brian) Baker; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Flagge, Kaitlynn Flagge, Samantha Flagge, Reagan Stultz, Lincoln Stultz, Olivia Baker and Alayna Baker. She will also be missed by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Russell; their son, Jerry and daughter-in-law, Diane Barton.

A Funeral Service for Edith will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Church – United Methodist, 308 Oneida St., Beaver Dam with Rev. Jeff Nicholas officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at church, beginning at 2:00 p.m. An extended time of fellowship will follow the service at church. Edith will be laid to rest next to Russell on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Douglas Cemetery in Endeavor, WI.
