Obituary: Alden Louis Pretz

Alden Louis Pretz, age 87 of Markesan, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Markesan Resident Home.

Alden was born on March 21, 1927 in the Town of Mackford, the son of Frank and Clara (Moldenhauer) Pretz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Markesan. He graduated from Markesan High School in 1945 and was united in marriage to Marguerite Gelhar on May 23, 1953 at Grace Lutheran Church in Berlin, WI. Alden worked on his family farm his entire life. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, going to gun and coin shows and farming.

Alden is survived by his son, Jim (Elaine) Pretz of Markesan; his daughter, Nancy (Chris) Stollfuss of Markesan; six grandchildren, Kari (Zack) Leedle, Tara, Kirk, Tyrel Pretz, Nicole (Jeff) Heberer, all of Markesan and Kyle (Melanie) Stollfuss of Ripon; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy (Glen) Linde of Beaver Dam; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2012; his great-granddaughter, Molly Leedle and other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Alden will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 65 W. Catherine St., Markesan with Rev. Jason Jobs officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at church, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Grand Prairie Cemetery, Town of Green Lake.

Memorials in Alden’s name may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Agnesian Hospice Hope.
