Obituary: Walter L. Walker

Walter L. Walker, age 96 of Kingston, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Markesan Resident Home.

Walter was born on April 23, 1918 to Walter D. and Laura (Holloway) Walker. After high school, he attended Ripon College before enlisting with the Army Air Corps in 1941 and proudly serving his country on numerous missions overseas. Walter worked for the Department of Corrections in Waupun and Fox Lake for 40 years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Prellwitz on June 27, 1947.

Most of Walter’s free time was spent outdoors. He planted a minimum of 1,000 pine trees each year and he was a proud supporter of many conservation groups. He also taught hunter safety courses for many years. He looked forward to taking hunting trips and also enjoyed fishing and collecting Indian artifacts. Walter was a member of the Kingston American Legion Post #395.

Walter is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Kingston; his son, Bill (Linda) Walker of Waupun; his grandchildren, Nathan (Bethany), Ryan (Catherine), Bill (Jill), Daniel (Renee); his great-grandchildren, Lillian, Maria, Aaron, Zoe, Xander, Griffon, Ruby, Max, Stella and one on the way; his brother, Fred (Erma) Walker of Fond du Lac and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Laurence and other relatives.

A funeral service for Walter will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11am at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan. Burial will take place at Kingston Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by the Kingston American Legion Post #395.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 4-7pm at Cornerstone and also on Friday prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 10am.
