Obituary: Natalie K. Murphy

Natalie K. Murphy, 90, a resident of Stone Terrace in Beaver Dam passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Jeff Nicholas officiating.  A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.  Inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.

Natalie Kate was born the daughter of James Emerson and Bernice (Mallory) Fuller on September 29, 1924 in Marengo, WI.  She was a graduate of Ashland High School and UW-Superior Teachers’ College receiving a bachelor’s of education in elementary education.  Natalie continued her graduate studies through the UW school system.  She was married to William S. Murphy Jr. on June 17, 1948 in Beaver Dam.  Natalie taught first grade at Wilson Elementary in Beaver Dam from 1946 until 1951.  She later taught second grade at Washington Elementary in Beaver Dam for 29 years until her retirement. 

Natalie was a member of Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam where she was active in various committees and a past Sunday school teacher.  She was a member of the Beaver Dam American Legion Auxiliary for many years.  Natalie was a member of the B.D.E.A., the W.E.A., and the N.E.A.  She was a former member of AAUW and a member of the Wisconsin Society of Mayflower Descendants.  Natalie also volunteered for both Meals on Wheels and the Beaver Dam School District.

Natalie is survived by her two daughters: Colleen (Dr. Samuel) Brayfield of Linn Creek, MO and Karen (Reed) Krogh of Oakdale, MN; grandchildren: Beau, Alex, Seth, and Joel Brayfield, Jessica (Kris) Hiestand, Nathan (Shannon) Krogh and Ryan (Laura) Krogh; two great-grandchildren: Adelaide and George Hiestand; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in 1985 and her sisters: Maxine Westlund and Shirley Goodrich. 

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or to Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam.
