Obituary: Grietje “Margaret” Couperus (Hylardis)

Grietje “Margaret” Couperus (Hylardis), passed away February 23, 2015 at the age of 93.

Visitation will be held at the Lowell United Methodist Church on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to the time of services.  Funeral services will follow at church on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Rev. Allie Scott will officiate.  Burial will take place at Lowell Cemetery in the Village of Lowell.

On September 26, 1921, Margaret was born in Tzum, Friesland (The Netherlands) to Schelte & Tryntje Hylardis and married Mollerus “Dutch” Couperus in 1943.  Margaret immigrated to the United States in June 1948 with her husband and two sons.  They farmed many years in Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin before retiring in Florida where she enjoyed her family, friends, and her artistic talents of china painting.

She is survived by her children, Rein (Alieta) Couperus and Mike in Wisconsin, Schelte “Ted” of Pennsylvania, and Tena (Todd) Crook of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and two additional great granddaughters expected this year; and one great great grandson.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Klaaske Couperus; a special member of our family, Ike (Chris) deVries; and also our extended family in Holland.

She was preceded in death by her immediate family, her husband, Mollerus in 2004; her son, Rex; one daughter-in-law Pam; and a great granddaughter.
