Luella M. (Kuehl) Drahmel, 99 years old, of Fond du Lac and formerly of Beaver Dam, went to her heavenly home at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Luella was born on November 25, 1915 in the town of Trenton, in Dodge County, to Emil and Mary (Stange) Kuehl. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She went to grade school at St. Stephen’s, attended Wayland Academy, and graduated from Beaver Dam High School. On May 24, 1941 she married the love of her life, her next door neighbor, Jerome “Jerry” Drahmel. She farmed there with him, and later worked at Beaver Specialties. In 1972 they left the farm and purchased a home in Beaver Dam. After 54 years of marriage, Jerry passed away in January of 1996. She later moved to an apartment in Beaver Dam. Then in 2007, she went into assisted living at Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, Tarfa Terrace.

Luella was a life-long member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and the Friendship League. She volunteered at the Bethesda County Fairs up till 91 years of age, the Bethesda Store in Horicon, and at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.

Luella and Jerry went square dancing and polka dancing. After learning to play the violin, she always loved violin music. When she watched TV, it was mostly the early family shows and Lawrence Welk. She was a good cook with her specialty dishes, like German potato salad that she would take everywhere, and her baking of sweet rolls and stolen.

“Lulu”, as some called her, is survived by her two daughters, Mary Anne (William) Miller of Naples, FL and Diane (Duane) Roedl of Fond du Lac, her five grandchildren Brett (Connie) Miller, Mark (Chris) Roedl, Lee (Dawn) Miller, Douglas (Tami) Roedl, and Denelle (Thomas) Kern, her eight great grandchildren Kaitlyn Miller, Keaton Miller, Paige Miller, Brandon Miller, Kody Kern, Hailey Kern, Ava Roedl, and Easton Roedl, her sister-in-law Lela Kuehl, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Alex and Lawrence Kuehl, sisters Dorothy Behle and Margaret Ganz, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and an infant brother.

A visitation will be held at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 West Street, Beaver Dam on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will follow at church on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Philip Heyer officiating. Burial will take place at Stone Cemetery, Burnett, WI.

Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Homes and Health Services, Inc. in Fond du Lac.

The family would like to thank Pastor Dean, Mary Breister, and the entire staff at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, for years of comfort and care that they provided for our mom. Also thank you to the pastors of St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church for their visits.

“Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”    – Anonymous Quote
