Obituary: Glen Linde

Glen Linde passed away peacefully in his wife’s arms on March 24, 2015 due to heart failure; ten days shy of his 88th birthday.

Glen was born on Sunday, April 3, 1927 to Albert and Laura (Thill) Linde near Beaver Dam, WI. He received his education in Beaver Dam, attending St Peter’s Catholic School, BD Junior High School, and BD High School, part of the Graduating Class of 1944. After a short stint working at Monarch Range, Glen enlisted in the Navy, stationed at Great Lakes (IL) and Farragut (ID) where he was a naval corpsman. After the service, he worked for the Wisconsin Power and Light Co. serving in their Northern Area, Mayville and Beaver Dam regions for a total of 41 years, retiring in 1988.

On September 6, 1952, he married his soul mate, Dorothy Pretz. In 1954, they moved to the family farm where Glen lived until his death. Together they were blessed with seven children. Glen was an avid deer hunter, both gun and bow. He was a 65-year member of IBEW Local No. 965. In retirement, Glen loved doing his daily crossword puzzles. He and Dorothy loved listening to polka music and watching animal shows.

Glen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; six children: Roger (Maureen), Russell (Joni), Douglas (Sandi), Thomas (Nan), Diane (Bruce Hanson) and Cheryl (Jeff Voigt); one sister: Lucille Halloran; grandchildren: Matthew (Amy), Elizabeth (Derek), Clair (Bob), Samantha (Ken), Derek (Angie), Laura, Adam Hanson and Aaron (Monica) Hanson; great-grandchildren: Lia Joy, Harrison Andrew, Grace, Kaitlyn, Blake, Lila and Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Elizabeth; parents, Albert and Laura Linde; sister, Georgiana (Bob); Dorothy’s parents, Frank and Clara Pretz; Dorothy’s brother and sister-in-law, Alden and Marguerite Pretz; daughter in-law, Joan Linde; and brother-in-law, James Halloran.

Visitation for Glen will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam and also on Saturday, April 4 prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Cornerstone, with Father Mike Erwin officiating. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Dam with a luncheon to follow back at Cornerstone.
