Obituary: Marie Gertrude Von der Sump

Marie Gertrude Von der Sump, age 92 of Dalton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Markesan Resident Home.

Marie was born on November 26, 1922 in Manitowoc, WI to Robert and Alma (Gesell) Dreger.  She graduated from Milwaukee State Teacher’s College and then taught at Cass Street School in Milwaukee.  On May 18, 1946 she was united in marriage to Franklin Von der Sump at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.  After their marriage she and her husband established and ran the F.E. Von der Sump Farm Equipment business in Dalton for over 60 years.  Marie was an active member of First Congregational Church where she played piano and organ and was active with the missionary society leading their devotions.  She was also a member of Merry Mates and a 4-H leader. Her husband Franklin was able to travel and work extensively in Russia and Lithuania because of Marie’s support and ability to run the business in his absence.  Marie and Franklin also enjoyed time together in Sebring, Florida where they had a home, friends and a church family. She was known for her kindness, generosity and her loving heart.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

Marie is survived by her children; Franklin (Donna) Von der Sump Jr. of Portage, Leta (Morris) Vinz Jr. of Dalton, Carol (Paul) Griepentrog of Park Falls, WI, Barbara (Richard) Parker of Ringle, WI, Susan (Pat) Keller of Sussex, WI, grandchildren; Davida (Mark) Considine, Aimee (Todd) Truax, Ellen Vinz, Daniel (Jennifer) Vinz, Linda (Josh) Hummel, Nicholas (Nikki) Griepentrog, Jessica, Jacob and Esther Griepentrog, Derek and  Kent (Stacey) Parker, Hailey, Maren and Sydney Wisner, great-grandchildren; Kaitlin and Moriah Rataczak, Anya and Alex Truax and Lila and Sophia Vinz.  Marie is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Franklin, 2 brothers, Jack and Jim Dreger and other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Marie will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregation Church, W6479 Pine St. in Dalton.  Visitation will take place on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Service, 181 S. Main St., Markesan and also on Saturday prior to the service at church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery  in the Town of Kingston with a luncheon to follow.
