Obituary: Vincent J. Wegner

Vincent J. Wegner, 78, of Beaver Dam passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison surrounded by his family. 

Vincent Jude was born the son of Vincent A. and Mary D. (Voreck) Wegner on March 24, 1936, in Kenosha, WI.  He was a graduate of Frankfurt High School in Frankfurt, IN.  Vincent was a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee and later earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work from UW-Milwaukee.  He served his country in the United States Army.  Vincent was married to Gloria K. Grover on October 22, 1966, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Galesville, WI.  He was employed as a social worker with Dodge County Social Services, and later retired from the state of Wisconsin with the Department of Health and Family Services. 

Vince was a member of Annunciation Catholic Parish in Fox Lake.  He was a charter member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dodge County.  Vince had a wonderful sense of humor, a love of theater and music, and was a skilled saxophonist.  He had a great love of language and was the go-to resource whenever anyone in his family needed the definition for a word, no matter how sesquipedalian. Vince enjoyed playing cards, whether it was Sheepshead with his friends or Cribbage with his family.

Vince is survived by his wife, Gloria of Beaver Dam; his four children: Karen Wegner of Crystal, MN, Susan (Ron) Kelm of Markesan, WI, MaryBeth Wegner of Houston, TX, and Mark (Julianne) Wegner of McFarland, WI; his brother, William (Pat) Wegner of Portland, OR; his sister, Lynne Long of Erie, PA; four grandchildren: Siayra and Dawson Kelm and Abe and Gus Wegner; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard.    

A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, April 17, 2015, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Beaver Dam.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Fr. Michael L. Wild officiating.  Inurnment will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam with graveside military honors conducted by the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146 of Beaver Dam.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater or to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Watertown and Dodge County.

As Vince would say, “Bye-bye for now.”
