Obituary: Lawrence “Larry” J. Hartzheim

Lawrence “Larry” J. Hartzheim, age 62, a Beaver Dam resident, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI from a lingering illness.

Visitation for Larry will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road in Beaver Dam on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 12:00 to 1:20 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 South Spring Street in Beaver Dam on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2:00 PM.  Fr. Michael J. Erwin will officiate.  Burial will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Larry was born on December 2, 1952 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late John “Jack” and Adelheid (Barbara) Hartzheim.  He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and was a 1970 graduate of Beaver Dam High School.  On January 18, 1976, he was united in marriage with Joanne “Jo” Zuehls in Watertown, WI.

Larry was a member of St. Columbkille (Elba) Catholic Church, Columbus, WI and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Larry had many different work positions throughout his life until an early departure from Stanley Steamer because of illness.  Larry enjoyed hunting, playing cards, bowling, and playing pool, with bass fishing becoming his passion.  Over the years, Larry was involved in breeding, training, and showing golden retrievers.  He will be remembered for his kindness, smile, and willingness to help others.

Survivors include his wife Joanne; his four siblings: Michael (Diane) Hartzheim of Beaver Dam, Peter (Pat) Hartzheim of Fox Lake, Paul (friend Joanne Webber) Hartzheim of Beaver Dam, and Heidi (David) Elgersma of Beaver Dam; nephews and nieces: Jennifer, Laura, Stan, Adam, Alex, Christa, and John; his aunt Beth Hutter; special friends: Chris, Alicia, and Taya Metzger, and Brandon, Denel, Riley, and Kacie VanPembrook; and his companions: Katie and Audie.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Lessel and Lucille Zuehls; uncles and aunts, Karl Hutter, Jack and Marie Springborn, Helen Hutter, Albert and Marjorie Hutter, and Tony and Betty Bauer; and cousin Albert Hutter.
