Obituary: Betty J. Strauss

Betty J. Strauss, 89, of rural Juneau passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at her home.

Betty Jean was born the daughter of Earl and Verna (Jesse) McDowell on May 17, 1925 in Waupun.  She was married to Frederick J. Strauss on October 11, 1947 in Beaver Dam.  She was a 1943 Beaver Dam High School graduate.  She later attended beauty school and worked for Fanshaw’s before she started to raise her family. 

Betty was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon where she served as a member of its ladies aid/guild.  Her hobbies included sewing and especially enjoyed gardening and raising flowers with her favorites being gladiolas and roses.

Betty is survived by her children: Janice Strauss of Milwaukee, Sharon Strauss of Sun Prairie, Kenneth (Mary) Strauss of Beaver Dam, and Brian (Rochelle) Strauss of West Allis; her sister, Mary Beil of Randolph; her sister-in-law, Jeanne McDowell of Juneau; four grandchildren: Andrew Miske, Michael Miske, Angeleen M.S. (Shane) Buske, and Nathan Strauss; two great-grandchildren: Lily and Tyler and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frederick in 2012, and her brothers: Gordon and Aaron McDowell.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon with Rev. Daniel Seehafer officiating.  A visitation will also be held on Monday, May 4th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at church.  Interment will take place at Stone Cemetery in Burnett.

Memorials in Betty’s name may be directed to St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon.
