Obituary: Shirly M. Sommerfield

Shirly M. Sommerfield, 76, of Randolph passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Ashley’s Home in Beaver Dam.

Shirly was born the daughter of Elmer and Evelyn (Bonner) Ladwig on April 25, 1939 in Columbus, WI.  She was a graduate of Fall River High School and Columbia County Normal.  She was married to Floyd Sommerfield on January 8, 1965.  Shirly taught elementary education in a country school house.  She was employed as a nurse’s aid while she lived in California.  The rest of her working life was spent farming which she most loved to do.

Shirly is survived by her three sisters: Joy Plourde of Bloomington, MN, June Williams of California, and Beverlee (Richard) Mallon of Oshkosh; her special nephews: Mark Ladwig of Randolph and Arden “Butch” Neuman of Fall River; her sisters-in-law: Ruth Ladwig, Denise Ladwig, Bevalee Hilbert, and Agnes Ladwig; and is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd on October 17, 1974, her four brothers: Kenneth, Clifford, Loren, and Delano, and nephew, Joel Ladwig.

A private family funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus.  Interment will take place at Randolph Cemetery, Randolph, WI.

Memorials may be directed to Hillside Hospice and Homecare in Beaver Dam.

Shirly’s family would like to thank Patty, Julie and Amy for their love, care, and support of Shirly and her family through the last several months.
