Jacob was born on June 19, 1918 in Friesland, Wisconsin to the late Samuel and Della (Haima) Sterk.  On January 24, 1939, he was united in marriage with Jeanette Vander Velde in Friesland, Wisconsin.  He served in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart while fighting in the European Theater.  Jacob worked for the Department of Corrections and retired in 1974 as Captain at the State Reformatory in Green Bay; he was retired 40 years longer than he worked.  He was a gentle, family loving, Christian man who will really be missed.  He often worked more than one job to provide for his family, such as driving a school bus for many years.  Jacob loved to read, especially westerns by Louis L’Amour.  He had a deep bass voice and loved those low notes.  He acted in several community plays and traveled all over the world.
