Obituary: Sherman F. Van Drisse

Sherman F. Van Drisse, 79, of Pardeeville, WI passed to eternity, on July 6, 2015 after a 10 month struggle with lung cancer. 

He was born on September 27, 1935 in Lincoln, WI to the late Eli and Laura (Maufort) Van Drisse.

He graduated from Casco High School in 1953 and continued lifelong friendships. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, History and English, and also a Master’s Degree in Library Science, educating and assisting students in Chilton, Green Bay, Salem, Moraine Park Beaver Dam, and also 22 years in the Wisconsin Correctional System in Waupun, Taycheedah, and Fox Lake, retiring in 1990.

After three years of volunteer Army in the Korean War Germany Medics assignment, he married Darlene Dequaine on August 26, 1961 at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, Rosiere. They raised their family in Beaver Dam. Four years ago, in 2011, they celebrated 50 years of marriage, with Madison Diocese, Bishop Morlino, and then at home with family.

Sherman and his wife helped many with housing needs; renting our apartments and home in Beaver Dam and Columbus for over 40 years.

Sherman loved landscaping, creating beautiful vegetable and flowering gardens and sharing his plants with family and friends.

He loved activities, making sure each of his children knew how to work, swim, ski, camp, and enjoy pontoon time with their children on Park Lake in Pardeeville.

Sherman traveled extensively while in service and also with his wife Darlene, enjoying 14 winters in Old Bridge Village, North Ft. Myers, FL, and two trips with the Belgian American Club in Namur to their Belgian ancestry Grez-Doiceau, Belgium. 

Survived by his spouse, Darlene (Dequaine) Van Drisse; four children and 13 grandchildren, Steven (Michelle) Van Drisse and children, Eli and Julia of Milwaukee; Dr. David (Joni) Van Drisse and children, Alec, Andrew, Ava, and Aidan of De Pere; Ann (Scott) O’Hearn and children, Rachel, Dylan, Lindsey of Fairlee, Vermont; Jean Louise (Randy) Scott and children, Abby, Owen, Charlie, and Laila of Milwaukee.

Also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Van Drisse of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Geri (Dick) Wessel of De Pere; and brother-in-law, Marvin (Janet) Dequaine of Algoma; Many dear relatives and friends in Wisconsin and North Ft. Myers, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Laura Van Drisse; brother, Everett Van Drisse on May 31, 2014; and a nephew, Joey Van Drisse; all of Lincoln, Wisconsin.

The visitation will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 North Crystal Lake Road (Hwy 33, just east of Beaver Dam) on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be a Rosary service at the funeral home on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. There will also be a visitation at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 312 South Main Street, in Pardeeville on Monday, July 13, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at the church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Paulraj Sellam officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Pardeeville American Legion Post #215 at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Lincoln, next to his parents and grandparents burial space.
