Lowell, Then and Now – July 24, 2015

An early morning ride through the Village of Lowell brought back fond memories of our family trips to the State Fair. As a young lad I enjoyed the journey as much as the fair itself. In the pre-bypass days, Highway 16 lead us directly through Lowell. I remember the narrow downtown street, the texture of the brick buildings, and the water cascading over the dam. Lowell had character, a neat place to live, I thought. My ride today brought back those memories and yes, I still see the unique character of this village. To take a phrase from the TV show Hee Haw. “To the Village of Lowell, population 340…. SALUTE!”
