Obituary: Raymond M. Kossen

Raymond M. Kossen, age 84 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 3, 2015.

Ray was born on January 28, 1931 to Martin and Meta (Giese) Kossen in Beaver Dam and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1950.  After high school, he worked at Oakwood Cemetery until enlisting in the United States Marines and serving his country for two years.  In 1952, Ray was employed at Mercury Marine in Beaver Dam and later in Fond du Lac for over 40 years, retiring in June 1996.  He was married on September 21, 1957 to Beverly (Rohde) in Beaver Dam.  Ray is survived by his wife, Beverly and together they had three children Vicki Kossen (Tony Kreuser), Kathleen (Hans) Berger, and Steven (Denise) Kossen; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Jamie) Ziegelbauer, Kristin (Mike) Nelson, Michael Ziegelbauer, Nicole Sutton (Bryan Hilgart), Ryan Sutton, Krystal Kossen and Kyle Kossen; and 4 great-grandchildren Trent Ziegelbauer, Sage Sutton, Cody Nelson and one expected in October.  He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He enjoyed woodworking making several personal projects for family and friends, dancing polkas and waltzes, summertime camping trips with the family, and spending time with the grandchildren.  He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam and a member of American Legion Post 146. 

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dale Kossen of California.

Visitation for Ray will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 West St., Beaver Dam from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Paul Stratman will officiate. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, followed by a luncheon served back at church.

Memorials can be directed to the Special Improvement Fund at St. Stephen’s Church in Beaver Dam.
