October 18 is Alaska Day

Here’s the Beaver Eskimo, hunting seal while wearing his toasty and traditional anorak. October 18 is Alaska Day because Alaska was transferred from Russia to United States on October 18, 1867.
Note:  In Britain, “anorak” is a slang term for nerd, or someone unusually interested in some sort of trivial jazz.  This designation evidently derives from the fact that British “trainspotters” are willing to stand around for hours (wearing their snuggly anoraks), merely to see or “spot” a train passing by.
