Obituary: Ruth L. Schmid

Ruth L. Schmid, 92, a life-long resident of Beaver Dam passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015 at her home.

Ruth Lorraine was born the daughter of Edwin and Della (Kunz) Rueckert on July 25, 1923 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.  She was married to Werner Schmid on June 18, 1947 in Beaver Dam.  Together with her husband, they owned and operated Schmid’s Northside Shell which later became R&S Auto in Beaver Dam from 1955 until his retirement in 1986.  Ruth was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam.

Ruth is survived by her children: Catherine (David) Gibbs of Fox Lake and Michael (Robin) Schmid of Marshall; her son-in-law, Larry Ludtke of Reeseville; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Karen) Gibbs of Fox Lake, Janelle Gibbs (Hassan Mouti) of Dallas, TX, Nathan (April) Schmid of Waterloo, Melissa (Brian) Logan of Marshall, Stephanie Ludtke of Grafton, and Matthew (Rebecca) Ludtke of De Pere; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Rueckert and Dennis Rueckert, both of Beaver Dam; two half-sisters-in-law, Lillian (Gerald) Ptaschinski of Wautoma and Elaine Wheeler of Beaver Dam; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Barbara in 2007, and a brother, Jack Rueckert.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Koepsell Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Rd., Beaver Dam with the Rev. Michael Erwin officiating.  A memorial gathering will also be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  A private family inurnment will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be directed to St. Katharine Drexel Parish or to Hillside Hospice and Homecare, both of Beaver Dam.
