Dr. Joel Miller was recently honored at a reception held at UW Hospital as one of the 2015 recipients of UW Health’s Annual Community Service Awards. Presenting him with the award was Dr. Peter Newcomer, MD, Chief Medical Officer, UW Health. Also present at the reception were Angie Olson, Church Health Services (CHS) Medical and Mental Health Clinic Coordinator and Bev Beal Loeck, CHS Community Relations Coordinator.
Since 2002, Dr. Miller has been an active volunteer physician with CHS, a faith-based health care organization that provides medical, dental and mental health services for those who are poor, uninsured or underinsured and live in the Dodge County area. CHS, a United Way Agency also works with area congregations to promote a healthy lifestyle through education. In addition to providing primary care for patients and families at his monthly clinics, Dr. Miller also serves CHS as a co-medical director, assists the organization with setting policies and procedures for the clinic and provides support for the clinic coordinator.
As quoted in the UW Health web based newsletter, “the service arm of UW Health’s mission is to provide the best possible patient care experience and outcomes for all those who need services. Joel focuses on the entire family unit, not just the patient. He is always willing to go above and beyond for the patients and families Church Health Services serves. When not providing direct care, Joel also helps with things like completing forms for patients applying for prescription drug assistance.”
Joel says he volunteers” because of his strong belief that all people deserve quality medical care.”
To be considered for this award volunteers must donate a minimum of 50 hours or more annually to a charity of their choice. They must also demonstrate an exceptional commitment to a wide range of non-profit organizations that promote community health.
