Thankful Is A State Of Mind

As I sit in my cluttered little office reflecting upon what I’m thankful for, it is difficult to think of something that I am not thankful for.

While 2015 has been the most uncertain professional year of my life, my W2 will not reflect it. (My checking account does, however.) Our nest is awkwardly empty, yet I’ve never been more proud to be a parent. And…I have too many people who prop me up when I’m down, push me along when I’m sluggish and kick me in the butt when I need it. It would be difficult to be anything but grateful this year.

I crave the thrill of performing and the response of the crowd, yet 2015 will end without me being on stage once. I had a great year directing and being part of wonderful crews and that is satisfying too.

The nest is empty and this too large home frequently only houses our 3 pets and zero humans now. But Holidays and traditions are important in this home. I just brought the brined turkey inside to be baked. There will be a bounty of food and few to enjoy it at the Wilkie Ranch today. I will offset this imbalance of sharing by volunteering to deliver Thanksgiving meals to shut ins and less advantaged families this morning.

As always, the things that I am most thankful for are the awesome people that have chosen to associate with me. The handful of people that know how difficult 2015 has been and have stepped up to assist. (Without being asked!) The wonderful people in my family, small circle of close friends, trusted business associates,my theatrical, choir, Grace Church, LocaLeben on-line readers who ‘like’ my ramblings and last, but certainly not least my waterskiing friends fill my life with abundance, frivolity, spice, fun and memories.

People wonder at all of the things that I do with my free time, but I’m a story teller and all of you and all of these experiences give me stories to tell. For those of you who hate being part of the story, I’m sorry; for those of you who love the stories, you are welcome.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I know you will all find something or someone to be grateful for today. Oh, and Go Pack Go!
