Obituary: Loren “Buck” William Zuhlke

Loren “Buck” William Zuhlke, Sr., age 84 from Markesan, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, with his family gathered around him.

Loren was born in Marquette County on June 23, 1931. He attended Evergreen Grove Elementary and Markesan High School. He began his adult life as a farmer and married June Eunice Laper on May 3, 1953. Loren excelled in various jobs throughout his life. He was employed at Ripon Cookie Factory, Speed Queen, Berlin Seating and drove truck for Sam Gaastra and Navis Trucking. Later, he ventured out into his own businesses and started an auto repair shop. He also did several odd jobs such as lawn mowing of local cemeteries and running the pit crew for his son’s racing team. Finally, running a successful trucking business for 25 years. He retired to a life of grumpy old manhood in 2009. In recent years, he enjoyed going to the races with Loren Jr., riding along with his son Greg when he did his deliveries and especially loved doing household repairs with his grandson Teagan.

Loren is survived by his wife, June and their children Lana (Dennis) Bradley, West Bend, Loren Jr. (Betsy), Beaver Dam, Gregory (Denise), Markesan and Nannette (Tom Sr.) Roberts, Markesan; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Bradley, Betsy (Bradley) Matter, Jennifer (Zuhlke) Holt, Joshua Zuhlke, Tom Roberts, Jr, Kristina (Roberts) Balocca, and Teagan Zuhlke; ten great-grandchildren, Sebastian Matter, Ella Mae Holt, Gavin Fitzwater, Emily Behnke, Preston Behnke, Brandon Gentz, Bryan Gentz, Ethyn Roberts, Isaac Roberts and Luna Balocca as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Loren was preceded in death by his mother Mabel Irene Dahlke, father Albert Zuhlke, sister Mary Harke, son Frederick Zuhlke, and grandson Frederick Bradley.

Visitation for Loren will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Tichora Cemetery, town of Mackford, followed by a luncheon to be served in the Community Room at Markesan City Hall.
