Obituary: Clayton “Pete” R. Gove

Clayton “Pete” R. Gove, age 88 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Pete was born on June 22, 1927 in Randolph, the son of George and Jeanette (White) Gove. After high school, he proudly dedicated 25 years to serving his country in the United States Army, serving during theend of World War II, the Korean War and also two tours in Vietnam. Pete was united in marriage to Aleda Haakma. After she passed away, he married Dorothy Graff. Pete enjoyed sports, played baseball in Germany for five years and loved to follow the Randolph basketball program. He was a member of John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 and also served as an alderman in Beaver Dam for several years.

Pete is survived by his children, Gail (Dennis) Toellner of Beaver Dam and Scott (Terri) Gove of Texas; grandchildren, Adam Toellner, Alan Wagner, Michelle Wagner, Rachel Smith and Keith Shananaquet; great-grandchildren, Avah and Alexis; his siblings, Vern, Sandra, Janette, Pat, Joan, Carrie, Emil and Chuck and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; his daughter, Janice Gove; siblings, Carol, Eleanor, Ryan “Tiny”, Maurice and others in infancy.

A funeral service for Pete will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 10:30 a.m. American Legion Post #146 members are invited for a walk through at 11:00 a.m. After the service, a luncheon will be served at Cornerstone, followed by burial at Randolph Cemetery with graveside military honors.
