Obituary: Margery L. Owen

Margery L. Owen, age 88, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Hillside Manor.

The visitation will be at Harmony Baptist Church, N8954 County Road W, in Beaver Dam on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until the church service at 5:00 p.m. Rev. Peter Ostrander will officiate. Burial will be at Spring Brook Cemetery in the town of Spring Brook, Dunn County, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 12:00 Noon. 

Margery Louise Owen was born on June 6, 1927 to Charles F. and Gladys (Anderson) Owen in Falls City, Wisconsin. Margery attend Northwestern College in Minneapolis and the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, where she received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in elementary education. Ms. Owen taught in several states which include Illinois, California and Arizona. In 1965 she settled in Beaver Dam teaching the fifth grade at Washington Elementary. Ms. Owen’s community involvement included active participation at Bible Baptist Church where she served as a pianist, soloist, Sunday school teacher, and the vice president of the women’s Missionary Society. Later, Margery was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was a member of the BDEA, WEAC, and NEA as well as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary educational sorority.Ms. Owen strived to teach to children the importance of being able to read. She has touched countless children’s lives and her legacy will hopefully live on through generations to come. 

Ms. Owen is survived by her brother, Leonard Owen of Elk Mound; sisters, Marcene Carlson of Batavia, IL and Janice (Allen) Schmidt of Rogers, AR; 14 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews; several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clare and Russell; and sisters, Myrtle Gutwasser, Ferne Esping, and Vera Piette.
