Obituary: Velma Mae Vance

Velma Mae Vance, 92, of Waupun and formerly of Beaver Dam passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

A graveside memorial gathering will be held at Leipsig Cemetery, Township of Beaver Dam on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from Noon until the time of the graveside service at 1 p.m.  Deacon Ed Cody will officiate.

Velma was born the daughter of Almos L. and Cora A. (Jones) Shaver on October 20, 1923 in Jonesboro, Ark.  She was married to Cyril V. Vance on October 4, 1947 in San Antonio, TX.  

Velma enjoyed exercising especially jogging.  She was a sports enthusiast especially the Packers and Cubs.  She was a handmade seamstress.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poems.  Velma was proud of her Cherokee heritage and loved being around and working with the earth.  She dearly loved her family.  

Velma is survived by her daughters: Sandy Lehner of Waupun, and Cheryl (Gary) Lininger of Beaver Dam; her son, David (Janine) Vance of Youngtown, AZ; her grandchildren: Claire (Jim) Admire, Mary (Kevin) Rohde, Magdalene (Tracy) Brock, Daniel (Trina) Lehner, Michael (friend, Becky) Lehner, Joseph (Lindsey) Lehner, Ben (Melanie) Lininger, Joe (Jenni) Lininger, Jennifer (Jason) Nelson, Miranda Karasch, Nathan Vance, Lucas (Morgan) Vance, Nickolas Vance, Rachelle Mae Lebruns, and granddaughter of the heart, Christine; great-grandchildren: Jayden and Lizzy Rohde, Ian and Aubri Admire, Sydney and Breeanna Brock, Wyatt Lehner, Matthew and Jacob Lininger, and Taran, Makenna, Landon and Piper Vance; niece, Lela Ruth Shaver Barns and further survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cyril Vance, her son, Michael D. Vance, her siblings and other relatives.  She was the last of her generation.

Velma ran the race and she won.
