Obituary: Les J. “Digger” Quiring

Les J. “Digger” Quiring, 85, of Beaver Dam passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.  The Rev. Paul Stratman will officiate.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, and also on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.  Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Les was born the son of Henry A. and Sarah (Huebert) Quiring on August 30, 1931 in Mountain Lake, MN.  Les was baptized and confirmed at the Delft Church of Minnesota.  On February 12, 1955, he was united in marriage with Charlene Klebs by the Rev. L.C. Kirst in Beaver Dam.  Les worked on his parents’ farm near Delft, MN, and he later worked as a Milk Tester for Dodge County.  When he was first married, he worked at Monarch Range, and in 1960, he started his own excavating business which he ran for over 40 years.

Les drove push truck at the local race tracks and even drove his own modified race car with his sons as his pit crew.  He had a fondness for John Deere tractors.  In the past few years, Les could be seen riding his electric wheel chair around town.  

Les is survived by his wife, Charlene of Beaver Dam; his daughters: Jean (Dale) Drabek, Cheryl Hall, Karen Potter, and Lori (Mike Conley) Love all of Beaver Dam; his sons: Rick (Cathy), Keith, Randy, and Kevin (Carrie) all of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren: Renee (Jesse), Jacob (Gabbie), Travis, Tim (Frank), Matt (Brittni), Zach, Beau, Keith II, Ryan (Megan), Alex (Andrea), Jaden, Nikki (Rich), Wes (Shelly), and Bryanne (Hector); 13 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Pauline (LeRoy) Wiebe, Deloris (Willard) Fast, and Arnie (Myrtle) Quiring all of MN; his sister-in-law, Mona Klebs of Beaver Dam; his aunt, Anne Huebert of MT; as well as other relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law: Albert and Linda Klebs; his brother-in-law, Eugene Klebs; his sons-in-law: Ron Hall and Mel Potter; and his nephew, Kevin Quiring.

Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.

Les’ family would like to thank the staff of Hillside Hospice especially Patty, Jana, and Cindy as well as Kris and Amy from Angels on Earth for their exceptional care of Dad.
