Bernie was born on March 18, 1926, to William and Mary (Schmitt) Ferstl of Beaver Dam. Bernie grew up on a dairy farm on County Road CC and went to school in a one-room schoolhouse on County Road G. He married Eunice Zuehlke on September 24, 1947. After they married they took over farming on Eunice’s family dairy farm on County Road DE for over 45 years. Selling the cows in 1991 was one of the toughest things they had to do. As most will know, it was one of the most beautifully maintained farms in the area. Bernie and Eunice raised six children on this farm. In Bernie and Eunice’s spare time they loved taking drives anywhere in the countryside. Sometimes they were even lucky enough to have a grandchild along for the ride. Bernie was a hard-working man, with a very welcoming smile. He loved it when friends or family stopped for a visit.

Survivors include his children, Richard (Maureen Prunuske), Bruce (Gail), Brian (Lana), and Diana (Ray) Pearson, all of Beaver Dam; 11 grandchildren, Chrissy, Jonathan, Steven, Jason, Janel, Craig (Holly), Michelle (Matt) Stephens, Brianna, Brandon, Brett, and Paula (Corey) Mueller, and eight great grandchildren; one brother, Jerome; one sister Betty (Danny) Trost; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; sons, Robert and Ronald; parents; five brothers, Arnold in infancy, Earl, Ray, Lester, and Clarence; one sister, Ruth; and one granddaughter, Jenny.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Bernard G. Ferstl’s name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 408 South Spring St. Beaver Dam, WI 53916 or to Hillside Homecare & Hospice, 709 South University Ave. Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
