Obituary: Donald I. Wiese

Donald I. Wiese, 85 of rural Mayville passed away peacefully on September 16, 2016, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, WI with his wife and family at his side.

Donald was born on August 1, 1931, in the Town of Oakfield, son of the late Alvin. H and Alma E. (Kollmann) Wiese.  On June 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to Susan Schraufnagel at St. Andrew’s Church in LeRoy.  Together, they raised five wonderful children.

Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of VFW Post 69, Mayville.  He was employed by Maysteel from 1951 to 1983 and Gleason Reel from 1983 to 1995, where he retired in March, 1995.  Don enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, he loved to deer hunt and fish, tinker on all sorts of “projects”, play BINGO, work in their large garden and pick hickory nuts with Susie.

Don leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Susan.  He was very proud of his five children and the families each of them created; Don (Joan) Wiese, Cheryl (Scott) Strook, Glenn (Darlene) Wiese, Duane (Sue) Wiese and Charlene Immel-Wiese.  He was blessed with sixteen wonderful grandchildren, Kathryn (Kurt) Hintz, Carrie (Nick) Tibbott, Colleen Wiese, Miranda (Dustin) Beck, Aleana (Ryan) Rodig, Cody (Sara) Strook, Mitchel (Faith Zangl) Wiese, Darren Wiese, Jessica (Jesse Williams) Wiese, Weston Wiese, Brandon (Rachael) Wiese, Aaron Wiese, Cayden Wiese, Cassie (Taryn) Immel, Kayla Immel and Kyle Immel.  Seeing his nine great-grandchildren always brought a smile to his face.  They are: Connor and Aubrey Hintz, Dallen Tibbott, Collin and Logan Beck, Brody and Audrey Rodig, Nicholas Strook and Emma Simon.   Don is further survived by his siblings, Dorothy Loest, Ed Wiese, Alfred (Arlene) Wiese, Eugene (Mary) Wiese, Chuck (Darlene Bintzler) Wiese, Marcella (Marvin) Klemp, Margaret Brandl and Alvin (Pennae) Wiese.  His in-laws, Kenneth (Theresa) Schraufnagel, Ruth (Wayne) Margelofsky, Dorothy (Dick) Fink, Andrew (Bonnie) Schraufnagel and Arlene Pierog.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers Harold and Kenneth, his brother-in-laws Eugene Schraufnagel, Ed Pierog, Ruben Loest and Tom Brandl. Sister-in-laws Betty Wiese and Shirley Wiese.   Also preceding him were nephew Michael Wiese and niece, Helen (Wiese) Krueger.

A funeral service for Don will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville.  Rev. Joy Mortensen-Wiebe will officiate. Don’s family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday at Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, WI from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Military honors conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69 will follow the service.  Burial will take place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, LeRoy at a later date.  

The family wishes to thank the staff at Crossroads Care Center of Mayville and Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac for the loving, compassionate, attentive care they provided Don in his final days.
