Obituary: Jane Aneta VanderJagt

Jane Aneta VanderJagt, age 96, died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at her home in Horicon.

Visitation for Jane will be at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2:00 PM with Rev. Erin Stout officiating.  Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park in Davenport, Iowa on Friday, October 14, 2016.  Prior to burial on Friday, there will be a visitation at the Runge Mortuary and Crematory, 838 East Kimberly Road in Davenport from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  There will be a brief devotion at 2:00 PM followed by a procession to the cemetery for burial.

The former Jane Aneta DeVoogd was born on March 21, 1920 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Albert and Laura (nee Mol) DeVoogd.  She graduated from Comstock Park High School in Michigan.  On January 1, 1943, she was united in marriage with Samuel VanderJagt in Comstock Park.

Jane was the director of Adventuretime Preschool and Daycare in Davenport, Iowa for over 3 decades, helping to care for hundreds of children from local families. She was a foster mother to 55 foster children in both Sacramento, CA, as well as Davenport. Jane was active in all of the Christian Reformed Churches her husband, Samuel, pastored.  Of note, was her giftedness in piano and organ playing, children’s clubs and Sunday School.  She worked as an aide for Ridgecrest Retirement Village, at House of Fabrics and at Sveden House Restaurant. Jane was a prolific reader, seamstress, and fantastic homemaker and mother.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Samuel VanderJagt of Horicon; four children, Sandra Lynn (Marve) Westenburg of Sparta, WI, Jane “Laurie” (Steve) Scholten of Horicon, Janna Ruth (Bruce) Stout of Savanna, IL, and Samuel VanderJagt, Jr. of Glennallen, Alaska; 16 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; her sister, Joan (John) VanderWeide of Kentwood, MI; a brother, Lawrence (Ursela) DeVoogd of Muskegan, MI; other relatives and friends.  Jane was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Jon VanderJagt; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Scholten; and two brothers, Adrian (Analee) DeVoogd and Albert (Nita) DeVoogd.

If desired, memorials may be made in Jane A. VanderJagt’s name to World Renew, a Christian relief organization, ministering to families in need of disaster relief.
