There will be a memorial gathering at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  Military Honors will be provided by the Beaver Dam American Legion at 5:00 PM and this will be immediately followed by a memorial service; both will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home.

James Russell Butterfield was born on October 11, 1931 in the Town of Pelican, Oneida County, Wisconsin to the late Raymond and Mary (Russell) Butterfield.  He served in the 1st Cavalry of the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952.  On September 11, 1953, he was united in marriage with Joanne Schmidt in Waukesha; she preceded Jim in death in 2006.  Jim worked at Alloy Products in Waukesha for 30 years before moving to Beaver Dam in 1994.  He also worked for Apache Stainless Steel until he retired in 2003.  Jim and Joanne adopted Beaver Dam as their new home and became involved in the community.  Jim volunteered for the Lake Association and collected launch fees at the ramps on Beaver Dam Lake.  He was currently a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.  Many people will recognize Jim as the guy who walked his little black dog on Madison Street twice a day.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Donna Rae Butterfield of Waukesha; his brother, Michael Butterfield of Fond du Lac; a sister-in-law, Kaia Glenn of Hartford; his dog and faithful companion, Penny; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends, and very special neighbors.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Blanche Petranek; and a brother, Joseph Butterfield-Glenn.

If desired, memorials may be made in James Butterfield’s name to Meals-on-Wheels.
