Obituary: Elda M. (Dickie) Lehman

Elda M. (Dickie) Lehman, 93, passed away peacefully, January 8, 2017, at the Remembrance Home in Beaver Dam. She was born in Horicon on June 7, 1923, the only child of John and Hertha (Schwantes) Richards. Upon graduation from Horicon High School in 1941, she enrolled in St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Racine, Wisconsin. After receiving her RN degree Dickie was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp and was stationed on the Island of Tinian in the South Pacific and with the Army of Occupation in Japan.  

Following the war, she married Arthur Lehman, who preceded her in death after 51 years of marriage. They lived most of their married life in Winneconne, WI. Dickie was an office nurse for Dr. D.H. McDonald in Winneconne for many years. She was an avid knitter, loved gardening, fishing, and boating. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winneconne, where she was a Sunday school teacher, Elder, and longtime nursery caregiver. After moving to Beaver Dam, she joined Grace Presbyterian Church. 

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy (Douglas) Mathison of Beaver Dam and Mary (Roger) Chance of Greensboro, NC.  She is also survived by grandchildren: Lisa (Tom) Blochwitz and their daughters Jordan, Jenna and Mollie; Steve (Jenna) Mathison and daughter Ella; John Luce (Tiffany) and sons Jackson and Finn.  She is further survived by grandson Dominic Luce; step-grandchild Nadine, and her children Chelsea and Brad; sister-in-law Mildred Snyder and Carol Lehman; and life-long friend, Jinnie Lafferty. Besides her husband, Dickie was preceded in death by her dear grandson, Elliott Luce.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Rev. Chris Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon with graveside military honors conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post 157, where she was a 70 year member. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Grace Presbyterian Church or Hillside Hospice in Beaver Dam. The family wishes to thank Kathy Bates and all the caring staff of the Remembrance Home and Hillside Hospice for their compassionate care of Dickie.
