Obituary: Cecil I. Colstad

Cecil I. Colstad, age 89 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Cecil was born in the town of West Point (Lodi, WI) on September 21, 1927 to Edward and Cora (Olson) Colstad. Upon high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific. He was employed by Wisconsin Power and Light (Alliant Energy) for 40 years. He was a longtime member of First Ev. Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and on the Ushers Club. He was also a member of the Beaver Dam Conservation Club. Cecil enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states, most Canadian provinces, along with making several trips to visit relatives in Norway.

Cecil is survived by his wife, the former Anna Nondahl, of Beaver Dam; two sons, John (Sandy) of New Glarus, WI and Tom (Sara) of Irma, WI; a daughter, Mary (Phil) Colstad-Miller of Beaver Dam; eight grandchildren, Kim (Dan) Colstad Hefty; Bill (Melissa) Colstad, Heidi (Joby) Hoff, Eric (Erica) Colstad, Joe (Jenny) Colstad, Jake (Ashley) Colstad, Jenna (Chris) Miller O’Neal and Kate Miller; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Badeau; one brother-in-law, Stanley Grimstad, other relatives and friends.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Colstad and three sisters, Ethel Bilkey, Louella Leatherberry and Corrine Grimstad.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 311 W. Mackie St., Beaver Dam from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Mr. Pleasant Cemetery, Lodi at a later date.

If desired, memorials in Cecil’s name may be directed to First Ev. Lutheran Church, Hillside Manor or to the charity of one’s choice.
