Obituary: Alice E. Hackbarth

Alice E. Hackbarth, age 95 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Eagle’s Wings in Beaver Dam.

Alice was born on November 10, 1921 in the town of Brooklyn in Green Lake County, the daughter of John and Mary (Clancy) Montgomery. She graduated from Green Lake High School. On December 9, 1945, Alice was united in marriage to Winfield “Winnie” Hackbarth in Louisiana. Together they owned and operated Winnie & Alice’s Hideaway in Beaver Dam. She also worked at Walker’s Restaurant and The Pyramid. Alice was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and volunteered for the Salvation Army. She enjoyed traveling to Texas many times over the years, was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.

Alice is survived by her children, Jim (Dorothy) Hackbarth of Waupun, Rita (Gary) Rose of North Fond du Lac, Louise (Bill) Vossekuil of Beaver Dam, Sharon (Chuck) Gove of Fox Lake and Brenda (Roger) Priddy of Texas; her grandchildren, Mark Hackbarth, Tina Kenevan, Kevin (fiancée Deana Price) Hackbarth, Nicole (Jamie) Simpson, Matthew S. Hammer, Eric (Ruthi) Vossekuil, Heather (Nathan) Eggers, Jennifer (Kevin) Merrill, Zachary Gove, Hannah Gove, Mara (Taylor) Ustynik and Kyle Slinger; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Colin, Ella, Greyson Kenevan, Bella Bassuener, Tyler Zabel, MaKayla and Isabelle Bittner, Brittany Vossekuil, Katelyn Marquardt, Dakota and Brayden Eggers, Alyssa, Landyn and Logan Merrill and Kyland Slinger; great-great-grandchild, Kamryn Ritchie; sisters, Lucille (Newton) Tucker and Edith Wild; brother-in-law, Chuck (Connie) Hackbarth; sister-in-law, Shirley (Martin) Deuhring; and further survived by other relatives and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2015; five sisters and other relatives.

Visitation for Alice will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 511 S. Spring St., Beaver Dam from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Father Mike Erwin will serve as celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Dam, followed by a luncheon back at Mission Hall.

If desired, memorials in Alice’s name may be directed to the St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment Fund.
