Obituary: Shirley J. Youngdale

Shirley J. Youngdale, 85, of Beaver Dam passed away on December 18, 2016.

A Celebration of Life service for Shirley will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 12 noon at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road, Beaver Dam with Rev. Chris Davis officiating.  A visitation will also take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the funeral home.  Private family inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Shirley was born on April 29, 1931 to LaVerne and Emma (Cardinal) Kastner in Milwaukee.  She was a graduate of Menomonee Falls High School, where she was active as a majorette and enjoyed leading the high school band.  She also represented the Miller High Life Brewing Company as the Lady in the Moon.

At an early age Shirley fell in love with dance, particularly ballet and taught both in Menomonee Falls and in Beaver Dam.  She also choreographed early musical productions for the Beaver Dam Community Theater.

In 1973 Shirley became a travel agent for Beaver Dam Travel Agency and managed the business for many years.

She was united in marriage on July 23, 1949 to Harold D. Helchen, who preceded Shirley in death in 1970.  On August 30, 1981, she was united in marriage with Paul N. Youngdale.  Shirley was a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam.  She was a master gardener with a green thumb, who loved flowers and over the years she and Paul had many, many gardens.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her husband: Paul Youngdale; daughters: Roberta “Bobbi Sue” (Ken) Schwartz of Beaver Dam, Erin (Jeff) Braun of Beaver Dam; grandchildren: K.C. Schwartz, Kip Schwartz, Conor (Catelin) Sanders, Katie Sanders (fiancé Dan Kick); great grandchildren: CadrickSanders, Caralin Sanders; sister: Carol Simpson of Menomonee Falls; Paul’s children: Paula (Thomas) Schwartz of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Eric (Carol) Youngdale of Newark, Delaware, David Youngdale of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: Angela Schwartz, Alec Schwartz, Megan (Sam) Schmitz, Ryan Youngdale, Zachary Youngdale, and Aubrey Youngdale; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband Harold.

If desired memorials may be directed to Grace Presbyterian Church, or the charity of one’s choice.
