Lance Armstrong confesses

Every now and then, someone rolls into our lives offering a better “life lesson” than any folk tale or parable could possibly provide.  Take for instance, Lance Armstrong . . .
He was an amazing hero — able to defeat incredible challenges onboard a bike and defeat cancer.  What’s more, after defeating cancer, he bounced back and regained his throne on the pinnacle of biking.
But, like a Shakespearian tragedy, he was unable to defeat the defects in his character.  He was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles for doping and for demanding that his teammates also use dope.  The USADA stated that Armstrong masterminded the “most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that the sport has ever seen.”  Armstrong has been banned for life from competitive cycling.
I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.
     —Aristotle
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
    —Buddha
In very truth he was, the noblest work of God — an honest man.
    —Lincoln
Do not worry that you are not recognized, but strive to be worthy of recognition.
