Obituary: Edwina Mary “Eddie” (Farrell) Campnell

Edwina Mary “Eddie” (Farrell) Campnell passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin on July 1, 1936 to Leslie and Rosella (Reisdorf) Farrell. She lived in Pine Bluff, Wisconsin, graduating from Edgewood High School and College. She taught school for 30 years, mostly in the Waupun School District. Edwina also was an instructor in the vocational technical system and worked in the Dairy Science Department at the University of Wisconsin.

Eddie married Garner Campnell on July 27, 1963. She was an avid sports participant and spectator, having played league softball, and both she and her husband were great Badger, Packer, and Brewer fans. Eddie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who attended all the grandchildren’s events throughout all their schooling days. Grandma Campnell made memory books (birth through high school) for each of the grandchildren. The grandchildren loved her Mac and Cheese.

Edwina was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish where she was very active in the Catholic Women’s Society and served as president of the merged group in 2005. She also served as secretary, sunshine and craft chairs. Edwina loved to crochet and made many kitchen towels and other items for the Catholic Women’s fund raisers. She also enjoyed music, reading, playing                                                        cards, her flower gardens, baking breads and pies, and she enjoyed traveling. Eddie also sang in the New Life Choir for 16 years. She was a Eucharistic Minister, especially to the aging and nursing home residents, and served on the Funeral Dinner Ministry. Edwina also participated in the Meals-on-Wheels program, was a member of the Dodge County Area Retired Educators, and the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association.

Edwina is survived by her husband, Garner of Beaver Dam; two daughters, Colleen (Todd) Whitrock of Cedarburg and Carrie (Joel) Hogan of Omro; four grandchildren, Nathan and Samantha Whitrock and Jacob and Josh Hogan; sisters and brother, Mary Jane of Madison, Sharon (Bill) of Montana, and Joe of Milwaukee; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Jenny of Milwaukee, Al of Beaver Dam, George (Marlene) of Florida, and Myrlen of Randolph; special friends, Linda Wulff and Roger Plumb; other relatives and friends.  Eddie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Joseph; brothers and sister, Gerry, Madeline, Tim and J.D.; and brothers-in-law, Jack, Del, and Don.

Eddie’s family wishes to thank friends and family, as well as pastoral staff, for all the prayers, care and concern during her illness. They express special thanks to SSM Health, Beaver Dam Specialty Clinic, Beaver Dam Oncology Staff, and Hillside Hospice for their comfort and care.

Memorials may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish or the American Red Cross Donor Center, 2109 Zeier Road, Madison, WI 53714, or to a charity of choice.

There will be a Rosary recited at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. The visitation will be at church on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 11:20 a.m. The Mass of Christian burial will follow at the church on Monday at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Mike Erwin officiating and Fr. Tom Coyle concelebrating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
