Obituary: Norman R. Tillema Sr., age 69

Norman R. Tillema Sr., age 69 of Juneau, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Meriter Hospital in Madison on Sunday, December 10, 2017.

Norman was born on January 16, 1948 in Beaver Dam, the son of G. Earl and Lillian (Weisinger) Tillema. He graduated from Juneau High School in 1966. On May 28, 1966 he was united in marriage to Gertrude “Gertie” Dobbratz at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Oak Grove. Norman worked at Aunt Nellie’s in Clyman for the majority of his life and later worked at Wal-Mart in Watertown until retirement. He enjoyed hunting and trapshooting in his earlier years. His hobbies included gardening, grilling outside on a wood fire, playing guitar on the picnic table on warm summer nights, watching the Milwaukee Brewers, bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Norman is survived by his mother, Lillian Lepple of Beaver Dam; children, Jan (Gary) Schaalma of Juneau, Norman Tillema Jr. of Juneau, Pete (Beth) Tillema of Horicon, and Paul (Marisela) Tillema of Juneau; grandchildren, Mikayla (Kris Pasewald) Schaalma, Abigail Schaalma, Jacob Tillema, Clinton Tillema, Leah Tillema, Connor Tillema, Megan Tillema, Allison Tillema, Kody Tillema, Tyler Tillema, and Jessica Tillema; siblings, Chuck (Mary) Tillema  of Greenfield and Joyce (Bryan) Yonke of Goldsboro, NC; his beloved dog, Freckles, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Gertie on July 11, 2017; and other relatives.

Visitation for Norman will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. A private family service will be held and burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
