Obituary: Miendert “Mike” Wallendal, age 89

Miendert “Mike” Wallendal, age 89 of Beaver Dam, passed away with family by his side at Dycora Transitional Health on Thursday, August 9, 2018.

Mike was born in Randolph on May 13, 1929, the son of Samuel and Edna Rose (DeYoung) Wallendal. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1947 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. On September 22, 1963 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Graff Hess. He worked in the printing business until his retirement, and also spent his time serving on the Beaver Dam Fire Department from 1966 until 1992. Mike was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam. In his past-time, he enjoyed walking the dog and bowling with a league.

Mike is survived by his step-children, Luana “Loni” Hess of Dubuque, IA, Rhonda (Roger) Nelson of De Pere, and Don Hess of South Milwaukee; grandchildren, Darwin (Carey) Young, Angela Esquivel, Bridget (Mike) Celichowski, Brian (Ndidi) Yaucher, Alicia (Don) Kobishop, Shannon Schmidt, and Elizabeth (Omar) Custodio; 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, John (Bernice) Wallendal, Jacob (Caroline) Wallendal, Grace (Bernard) Thym, Arthur (Mary Ellen) Wallendal, Anna (Clarence) Schultz, Paul Wallendal, and Samuel (Elizabeth) Wallendal Jr.; and other relatives.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am with Fr. Mike Erwin officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, with graveside military honors provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146. A luncheon will follow back at Cornerstone.

Mike’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Dycora staff. Mike truly felt that he was in good hands, and the support and care he received was invaluable.
