Obituary: Betty Jean (Schmidt) Belter, age 83

Betty Jean (Schmidt) Belter, 83, of Fox Lake, WI passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Randolph Health Services.

A visitation for Betty will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Fox Lake.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Nottling officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Fox Lake, WI.

Betty was born on May 24, 1935, in Beaver Dam the daughter of Ervin and Elsa (Griesbach) Schmidt.  She was married to Gordon Dale Belter on June 1, 1957 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Fox Lake.  Betty retired from Walmart in Beaver Dam, where she had worked for many years.  She was an active and faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Fox Lake; where she had been a member of the ladies aid, choir and quilting group and had enjoyed volunteering at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran School throughout the years. She also volunteered at the Bethesda Store in Horicon and Watertown and at the Fox Lake Library. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and embroidery.  Betty loved and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her five children: Dale (Nancy) Belter of Beaver Dam, Lynette Heintz of Fox Lake, Laine (Diane) Belter of Somerset, WI, Denise (Jeff) Schepp of Beaver Dam, and Rod (Maggie) Belter of Randolph; one brother, Ervin (Marylin) Schmidt; one sister-in-law, June Schmidt; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and two more on the way; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon D. Belter in 2005, her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Henry and Viola (Ruenger) Belter; one brother, Leonard Schmidt and one sister-in-law, Darlyn Schmidt.
