Obituary: Mercedes G. Janisch, age 102

Mercedes G. Janisch, age 102, of Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Sylvan Crossings at Hunter Ridge in Beaver Dam.

Private funeral services will be held at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Mercedes was born September 8, 1916 to Benedict George Jackman and Edna Jackman (Voeltner) in the Township of Westford, Dodge County, Wisconsin. She spent most of her life on a small farm in the Township of Calamus, Dodge County, Wisconsin. She attended country school to 8th grade, and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1934. Mercedes attended Columbia County Normal School where she received a teaching certificate. She taught school in a one room school house in the Township of Beaver Dam for several years. Mercedes was united in marriage to Isadore Albert Janisch in September of 1938.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict and Edna; husband, Isadore Janisch; son, Thomas P. Janisch; sisters, Merdell (Tony) Paar and Audrey (Ralph) Jahnke; and brother, Clifford Jackman. She is survived by her sons, Charles of Beaver Dam, William of Beaver Dam, and Douglas (Alice) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; other family members and many friends.

Mercedes had an inspiring spirit, a love of life, and an unwavering faith that helped carry her through her many years. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mercedes G. Janisch’s name to the St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment Fund.
