Beaver Dam School District Continues its Award Winning Tradition

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has chosen Lincoln, Jefferson, South Beaver Dam and Wilson Elementary Schools as Wisconsin Schools of Recognition for their academic achievement in the areas of reading and math. Only schools identified as Title I schools are deemed eligible for Wisconsin Schools of Recognition. For the second year in a row, all Beaver Dam Unified School District elementary schools eligible for this distinction are recognized. Wisconsin Schools of Recognition are acknowledged for their exemplar academic achievement through rigorous programming and attention to individual student needs.

Student achievement in reading and mathematics at the award winning schools is in the top 25% of schools from similarly sized districts, grade configurations, and demographics. Lincoln, Jefferson, South Beaver Dam and Wilson Elementary Schools are four of only 145 elementary schools that are recognized by the state. South Beaver Dam Elementary School is recognized as a school of High Progress and a Beating the Odds School; Wilson Elementary School is recognized as a Wisconsin School of High Achievement, and Jefferson and Lincoln Schools are recognized as Beating the Odds Schools for high achievement in math and reading. Academic successes at all schools in the Beaver Dam Unified School District is reflective of the hard work and dedication by all district staff, students, and parents.

The Beaver Dam Unified School District has received 21 Wisconsin School of Recognition honors since 2010.

Superintendent Steve Vessey: “The Beaver Dam Unified School District continues to be an exciting and rewarding environment in which to grow, learn, and work as our students, staff, and parents continue to demonstrate why our schools are destinations for excellence, for every student, every day. Beaver Dam Unified School District students and staff continue to lead the way in student growth and academic achievement in the State of Wisconsin.”

Lincoln, Jefferson, Wilson and South Beaver Dam Elementary Schools will be recognized at a ceremony at the State Capitol on May 1.

Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition Criteria

  • Demonstrate high achievement at the school level

    High-Progress Schools

  • Fall within the top 10 percent of schools experiencing growth in reading and mathematics for elementary and middle school students or the top 10 percent of schools with the greatest improvement in high school graduation rates

  • Have achievement gaps that are less than 3 points between student groups or show evidence of reducing gaps

    Beating-the-Odds Schools

  • Are in the top 25 percent of high-poverty schools in the state

  • Have above-average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels

Another great day for Beaver Dam Schools!
