Obituary: Cody J. Laughran, age 25

Cody J. Laughran, age 25, formerly of Beaver Dam, died unexpectedly at his home in Columbia, MD on Sunday, July 8, 2018.

The memorial gathering will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Monday, July 23, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Military honors will follow at the funeral home on Monday evening.

Cody John was born on October 7, 1992 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was the only son of Douglas and Kathleen (Kasmiske) Laughran. Cody enlisted in the United States Army in 2011, during his senior year at Beaver Dam High School. He served in the Army for 6 year with a tour in Afghanistan.   He furthered his education at Fox Valley Technical College and graduated from the Law Enforcement program in 2013. Cody worked for the Fall River, Columbus, and Fox Lake Police Departments before moving to Maryland, where he joined the Mount Rainier Police Department last year. He was just promoted to Private First Class Officer earlier this month.

Cody is survived by his mother, Kathy Laughran of Beaver Dam; sisters, Victoria Lundy of Beaver Dam, Bobbie Jo (Scott) Mleziva and children, Brayden and Cohen of Mequon, Laci (Al) Sterling and children, Chase and Lucas of Sun Prairie, and Katelynn Cloud (Jacob Dowden) and son, Parker of Brooklyn; grandparents, Ronald and Bonnie Hermann of Waupun and David Hunter of Stevens Point; special aunt, Laura Laughran (David Schaub) of Hayden, ID, as well as many other aunts, uncles, and cousins; special friend, Abi Quackenboss of Columbia, MD; all of his military and law enforcement family near and far; and several friends. He was preceded in death by his dad, Doug and his grandma, Martha Hunter.
