Activities Planned For October: EAA Museum

A presentation by a Medal of Honor recipient, the closing days of an Apollo space exhibit, and a classic aviation movie highlight October activities at the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh:

Thursday, October 5, 6:30 p.m. — Movie: “Dive Bomber”

The monthly Skyscape Theater Royale aviation movie series features this 1941 classic dramatizes a military surgeon teaming with a naval aviator to develop a high altitude-suit to protect pilots from blacking out during steep dive. Stars Errol Flynn, Fred MacMurray, and Ralph Bellamy. Nominated for an Oscar for best cinematography. Admission free for EAA members, $5 for non-members.

Saturday, October 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. — Space Day

All ages will enjoy the space-themed day with special hands-on activities, launch simulations, and presentations by NASA and National Air and Space Museum officials. It also marks the closing weekend of the museum’s Apollo space exhibit on loan from NASA. All activities included with regular museum admission.

Saturday and Sunday, October 7-8 — Pioneer Airport Closing Weekend

One of most unique interactive museum exhibits anywhere has its final weekend of the season. Flights available in an open-cockpit biplane or, for ages 8-17, free Young Eagles flights from the airfield’s grass runway that re-creates the aerodromes of the 1920s and 1930s. Pioneer Airport displays included with regular museum admission; biplane flights extra fee (weather permitting).

Thursday, October 19, 7 p.m. — Medal of Honor recipient Bruce Crandall

The monthly Aviation Adventure Speaker Series is honored to welcome Crandall, a Medal of Honor recipient for heroism while serving as a Huey helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. His story is dramatized in the 2002 movie We Were Soldiers. This special presentation in the museum’s Founders’ Wing is free for EAA members, and just $5 for non-members.
